Bettendorf's Clark steps down as boy's basketball coach

After 12 years as head coach of the Bettendorf High School boy's basketball team, Curtis Clark is stepping down from the position.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — After 12 years as head coach of the Bettendorf High School boy's basketball program, Curtis Clark is stepping down from the position.

Clark broke the news to his team Monday night. In 12 seasons, Clark led the Bulldogs to a 179-96 record, five Mississippi Athletic Conference (MAC) titles and four trips to the state tournament.

“My aim was to pass on the knowledge I had acquired from the previous coaches here at Bettendorf and from my own experiences as an athlete,” Clark said. “Throughout this endeavor, I have had the privilege of working alongside some of the most dedicated, knowledgeable, and hardworking staff one could hope for. I am grateful for their unwavering support and camaraderie, and I will miss coaching with them."

In the 2023-24 season, Clark's Bulldogs shared the MAC title with Pleasant Valley before making it all the way to the Class 4A semi-finals

Clark, a St. Ambrose University graduate, said it's the right time to step away after 20 years of coaching and that he's eager to spend more time with family and friends.

The Bettendorf school district said it will be posting the boys' basketball coach position in the near future.
