Living Lands & Waters partners with the John Deere Classic to plant trees around the Quad Cities

A total of 1,929 trees will be planted, which is 1 for each birdie scored in the 2023 tournament.

SILVIS, Ill. — The Quad Cities is going to be getting a little bit greener.

In partnership with the John Deere Classic, Living Lands & Waters is set to give away 1,929 trees that will be planted around the community. If that number seems a bit specific, the organization intends to plant one tree for each birdie scored in the 2023 John Deere Classic. To kick off the "Birdies for Trees" partnership, officials planted the first tree at Gauley Field in Silvis along with George O. Barr Elementary students on Wednesday, May 22.

"Almost 2,000 trees are gonna be planted in the next couple days or weeks right here in the Quad Cities It's special because we can't do anything without them. Those trees mean a lot to us," Andrew Layer with Living Lands & Water said.

The remaining saplings are being donated to members of the Quad Cities community for planting.
