5-year-old hit by car in Kewanee, officials say

Around 8:15 p.m. Friday, April 12, Kewanee Police responded to Fairview Homes after a child bicycling within the complex was struck by a car.

KEWANEE, Ill. — A 5-year-old is recovering after being hit by a car while riding their bicycle Friday night in Kewanee, officials say. 

Around 8:15 p.m. Friday, April 12, the Kewanee Police Department responded to Fairview Homes on North Chestnut Street. According to a press release, the child was bicycling in the complex when they were hit by a car. The child sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by the Kewanee Fire Department. They were transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and care.

Officials have identified the driver as 27-year-old Tawnie Arrington from Wyanet. She was taken into custody and charged with driving a motor vehicle with a revoked license and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. She was released on notice to appear in court, with a hearing scheduled for May 31.
