Longtime Quad City Animal Welfare Center resident finds forever home

The beloved Avie, a pit bull mix, is finally headed to his "furever" home after spending over two years in a shelter.

MILAN, Ill. — One of the Quad City Animal Welfare Center's (QCAWC) longest residents has found his "furever" home!

Back in November, News 8's Cesar Sanchez showed us the story of Avie, a four-year-old pit bull mix who had been at the shelter for almost 800 days.

"He is just a big goofball," Patti McRae, the QCAWC's executive director, said. "He's a sweet, happy boy that has so much energy."

After spending over two years at the shelter, volunteers were overjoyed when Avie was finally adopted earlier this week. In a Facebook post, shelter workers said:

We couldn't ask for a better start to the new year! Our wonderful Avie found his forever foster family!

After spending 795 days with us, Avie finally went home with a wonderful forever foster family. Many happy tears were shed, and Avie got lots of love on his way out of the building. If it weren't for everyone sharing his story, and for our amazing staff and volunteers, this may not have been possible. Thank you to everyone who has loved Avie and kept his life as fulfilling as possible while he patiently waited for his home.

Avie is also part of the shelter's "Forever Foster Program," meaning all the food and medications that Avie may need are provided. Vet visits would also be covered by the shelter's veterinarian.
