ARCHIVE: Severe weather, high winds blow through Quad Cities Friday night

High winds and some tornadic activity occurred during the weather event.

MOLINE, Ill. — UPDATE: This severe threat has ended.

Around 5 and 6 p.m., the News 8 viewing region will start to see some storms generate along a cold front, especially north of Highway 30. These storms are expected to race north to south through the evening hours. 

All of us will see a primary concern of damaging winds with gusts up to 70+ MPH. Hail and a few tornadoes, especially north of I-80, are possible. 

Our threat will come to an end around midnight. A few storms may be possible through the overnight hours south near Burlington, but not concerned about anything severe.
