Red Cross will continue daily meals until Wednesday

As of Sunday, the American Red Cross has provided 4,322 meals to those impacted by the flood.

MOLINE, Ill. — As the river level continues to increase, News 8 is compiling information for Quad Cities-area residents to refer to. 

The National Weather Service is maintaining its forecasted 21.6-foot crest for the Quad Cities area, which is expected to hit either Sunday night or Monday morning. More updates can be found here. 

On April 28, the QC Community Foundation in partnership with Disaster Ready Quad Cities announced they are currently accepting donations to support QC nonprofits that support those impacted by flooding. The Community Foundation also partners with local governments to provide grant opportunities.

Shelter, food resources

American Red Cross 

The Red Cross has opened one shelter at 1111 West Kimberly Rd in Davenport and another at the Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church in Moline. Pets are welcome at the Davenport site as long as owners bring a kennel and all necessary pet supplies. 

Those who plan to use the shelter should bring whatever personal supplies they need, including medications and health care products. Meals and water will be available at the shelter. 

There will also be three other locations for folks in need of a meal. The following locations will start serving food at 5 p.m. starting on April 27: 

  • Pleasant Valley Fire Station parking lot at 24495 Valley Dr in Bettendorf, Iowa.
  • The parking lot at the corner of South Concord Street and Utah Avenue in Davenport, Iowa.
  • Buffalo City Hall in Buffalo, Iowa. 
  • The parking lot at the old fire station on Campbell’s Island in East Moline, Illinois.

Lunch will be served daily from 12-2 p.m. and dinner will be served from 5-7 p.m. until Wednesday, May 10. 

Bottled water and cleaning supplies such as buckets, sponges, rakes and more will be available on Thursday, May 11, from 5-7 p.m. at the following locations: 

  • Community Center – 428 River Dr, Princeton, Iowa.
  • South Concord and Utah Ave in Davenport.
  • Campbell’s Island – parking lot at the old fire station.

Those who need other assistance, such as transportation to the shelter, should call 1-800-733-2767. 

State & county resources

Iowa

Gov. Kim Reynolds signed a disaster proclamation for 10 counties along the Mississippi on Tuesday, April 25. The proclamation allows grant assistance and case management services to be made available to those impacted by flooding. 

Needs include auto and home repairs, clothing, food and emergency housing. Families must meet income eligibility guidelines to qualify for the Iowa Individual Assistance Program, but there are no guidelines for case management assistance. 

Application forms for the grant program can be obtained in person and submitted to Community Action of Eastern Iowa at 500 E. 59th St. in Davenport. 

Those who need legal help can get assistance from Iowa Legal Aid by calling 1-800-532-1275 or by visiting its website

Illinois

Applications for disaster assistance have not been posted. The link above has information on what Illinoisans should do before, during and after the flood. 

Illinois Legal Aid may be able to help tenants should a legal dispute happen. 

QC Ready

QC Ready is the official public safety app for Rock Island and Scott counties' emergency management departments. It allows for mass communications and emergency messaging through push alerts.

City resources

Davenport

The City of Davenport has been on top of flooding updates for the last few months. The City's website has a full list of resources available, from gas and electricity to sheltering support. 

You can also find updates on the City's Facebook page.

Moline

The City of Moline's website has information on flood plans on its website. The top of the page says to call the Community Development Department at 309-524-2050 to get questions answered about flood hazards, floodplain mapping and more.
