Heat advisory pushes heat index into the triple digits

Despite brief thunderstorms, a Heat Advisory continued throughout the Quad Cities until 7 p.m.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Despite brief thunderstorms, a Heat Advisory continued throughout the Quad Cities until 7 p.m.

"It has been very humid and very hot," said Here's the Scoop employee Victoria Young. "The past couple of days with all the heat going on we have seen a lot of people coming in."

Young has been serving scoops for nearly three summers now and said summer sales are hard to beat.

"People always talk about the air conditioning when they walk in," Young joked. "They’re like 'oh it’s so nice and cold in here we needed this'."

Temperatures reached a high in the mid 90s on Wednesday July 8.

"It was very warm in the afternoon," said customer Katie Brinkley.

Brinkley said her and her seven-year-old Boxer, Mayhem, made the trip to Here's the Scoop several times due to this week's higher temperatures.

"She runs with me so she’s used to the heat," Brinkley said. "I like it at least a little cooler because I work outside all day."

Temperatures are expected to hover around 90 degrees going through the upcoming weekend. The area will not likely see another chance of rain until the middle of next week.
