Quad City transit agencies hold summit on improving local services

Leaders in local transportation services are looking at how to make it easier for you to get around town.

EAST MOLINE, Ill. — Quad Cities area transportation officials want your help making it easier to get around town.

The Bi-State Regional Commission hosted the Quad Cities Transit Summit at the East Moline Public Library on Wednesday, April 25 to share ideas and hear from the community on what to improve on.

One person at the meeting was Jim Maloney, a regular MetroLink rider who is featured in the company's latest ad campaign 'Every Seat Has a Story.' "We are fortunate here in the Quad Cities area, that we have an elaborate transportation system," he said.

Maloney uses the bus every day to get to his job and volunteer work, which is why at the summit, he had suggestions for Davenport's Citibus, which included extending their service hours. "10 o'clock at night during the week, and a little bit later on the weekends," he said. Maloney believed those changes could help riders with disabilities like his own not have to rely on private services at night.

"Depending on the company, and depending on where you need to go. You could pay $30 to $40 per ride," Maloney said.

Transit teams are hoping to meet that demand for longer hours by attracting drivers with competitive pay and helping with CDL training.

Ways to give feedback

Transit teams recommend reaching out by phone, email or social media. Some services like MetroLINK have forms that can be completed on their website.

City transportation officials also recommend reaching out to city leaders and your local aldermen.
