Iowa lands Northwestern transfer QB

Northwestern transfer quarterback Brendan Sullivan has committed to Iowa. Sullivan started eight games over three seasons as a Wildcat.

MOLINE, Ill. — Northwestern transfer quarterback Brendan Sullivan has committed to the Iowa Hawkeyes.

The addition of Sullivan bolsters a greatly depleted quarterback room in Iowa City, after 2023 starting quarterback Deacon Hill and walk-on Tommy Poholsky transferred out of the program this Spring, leaving Cade McNamara and Marco Lainez III as the only quarterbacks remaining on the Iowa roster.

Sullivan started eight games for the Wildcats during three seasons in Evanston, four each in 2022 and 2023. He logged 589 passing yards while completing 71 of 96 passes in 2022, and 714 passing yards while completing 63 of 99 passes in 2023. Sullivan also rushed for 257 yards on 129 carries and is seen as a more mobile signal-caller than the prototypical Iowa quarterback.

Sullivan will work closely with new Iowa offensive coordinator Tim Lester, who offered Sullivan a scholarship while head coach at Western Michigan.

The Davison, Michigan native will look to push McNamara for the starting job. McNamara, who transferred to Iowa from Michigan before the 2023 season, suffered a season-ending ACL injury in a Sept. 30 game and has been limited during spring practice.

Iowa kicks off its 2024 season when the Hawkeyes host Illinois State on Saturday, Aug. 31.
