North Scott volleyball wins state title

It's the first time the Lady Lancers have received a state title in over three decades.

MOLINE, Ill. — Update as of Thursday afternoon: The Lady Lancers have officially won a state title to close out the season! North Scott secured the Class 4A State Championship in a 3-0 win over Indianola Thursday.

In addition, Illinois volleyball teams from Rock Falls, Annawan and Galena all claimed sectional championships during Wednesday's games.

Previous Story:

North Scott volleyball will be competing for the Class 4A state championship since 1986 after a 3-0 win Wednesday.

"None of us have been in the volleyball state championship. North Scott hasn't been there in years," junior Abbey Hayes said. "So it's a huge accomplishment just getting there."

The Lady Lancers defeated Clear Creek-Amana in the semifinals, after losing to them last year. Now, the Lancers are set to play Indianola on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 12:15 p.m., which will determine Iowa's 4A state championship.

North Scott isn't the only Quad City area volleyball team making a mark in the postseason. Davenport Assumption and Pleasant Valley also played in Iowa's volleyball semifinals today but fell short of going to the championship game.

On the Illinois side, three area teams are looking to secure sectional championships as well. Rock Falls, Annawan and Galena are all competing Wednesday night for the title. News 8 will update this story once the scores are in for those games.
