WQAD welcomes Corey Spencer as News Director

Spencer has Quad Cities area roots, and joins the station after serving as Assistant News Director at KARE-TV in Minneapolis.

MOLINE, Ill. — WQAD is excited to welcome Corey Spencer as News Director, leading the News 8 newsroom. Spencer has local roots with vast regional experience in broadcast and digital news.

Spencer was born in Moline, grew up in Bureau County, Illinois, and graduated from Bradley University in Peoria.

He started his career as a producer and multi-skilled journalist at WEEK-TV in Peoria, Illinois. 

Spencer then moved to WHAS-TV in Louisville, where he produced coverage for one of the largest snowstorms in Kentucky history. 

From there, Spencer moved to KSDK-TV in St. Louis. He served as Senior Producer on 'Today in St. Louis' - an Emmy Award-winning newscast that was the most-watched morning news in the market.  

Spencer was promoted to Executive Producer and then Assistant News Director at KARE-TV in Minneapolis, where he led his team through generational news stories including the COVID-19 pandemic and the murder of George Floyd.  

Spencer says he is thrilled to return home to the Quad Cities with his wife Kaylee and two cats Gracie and Ted. Outside of the newsroom, Spencer is an avid sports fan and enjoys golfing, craft beer, and hiking.
