EAST MOLINE, Ill. — School districts around the Quad Cities are partnering to tackle a challenge that's impacting all of them — staffing shortages.

On Tuesday, April 9, representatives from six school districts gathered at United Township High School for a collective job fair. The Hampton, Carbon Cliff-Barstow, United Township, East Moline, Silvis and Colona School Districts all participated in the event. The districts were hiring for a wide variety of positions, including substitute teachers, tutors, librarians and more. District officials said they hoped the event would boost recruitment by giving potential employees a wide variety of positions and locations to choose from.

"There are some positions such as substitute teachers that we all need more of. We all need more bus drivers, but there may be people that live closer to a certain district or prefer working with a certain age, and I think we're just stronger together when we work together," Kelsey Erickson with UTHS said.

The school district will also be hosting another job fair later in April, but this one focuses on finding opportunities for current students to find jobs that work for them. District officials said over 100 career options will be available for students between 10th and 12th grade to explore. The event will be held at United Township High School on Tuesday, April 23 from 8 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
