OSF HealthCare cuts ribbon on new health center in Galesburg

The facility is located inside of the former Cottage Medical Hospital.

GALESBURG, Ill. — OSF Healthcare in Galesburg cut the ribbon Friday on a new Center for Health at the former Cottage Medical Building. The new center will provide more space for primary care services, including family practice and internal medicine.

President of OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Lisa Dekezel says the hospital serves a population of roughly 80,000 across its primary and secondary markets.

"A connected system of healthcare within a community that does not require travel is just really something that is rare and unique," Dekezel said.

It came after an investigation by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services revealed Cottage was understaffed and mismanaged, putting staff and patients at risk for injury and death. But OSF says the past is in the past, and they are excited to expand healthcare services in Galesburg.

"If you've been to our campus out by St. Mary Medical Center, we are running out of space," said OSF Healthcare Western Region CEO AJ Querciagrossa. "We are going to continue to invest here in our rural communities, and continuing to bring excellent providers, excellent team members."

The new center is also bringing in satellite clinics. Extensions of many of the OSF Healthcare service in Peoria. OSF says these will provide even more specialty services to better serve the community. The third floor of the center is still under renovation. OSF says it will continue to expands its outpatient services in Galesburg in the coming years.
