IowaWORKS immigrants and refugee workforce event connects Quad Cities employers and job seekers

The immigrant and refugee community of the Quad Cities learned about employment resources at IowaWORKS' "Immigrant Workforce – The QC's Best Kept Secret" event.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — On Thursday, the immigrant community of the Quad Cities learned about the resources available to them when it comes to finding jobs.

IowaWORKS hosted both employers and immigrants seeking jobs for a employment event called "Immigrant Workforce –  The QC's Best Kept Secret." During the event, employers got to learn about the employee pool available in the Quad Cities, while immigrants and refugees looking for jobs got to learn about the work opportunities available to them. Community resources and non-profit organizations were also at the event to provide information about local support for refugees and immigrants.

As a refugee workforce liaison with the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services and a former refugee himself, Edgar Ramirez works to connect refugees with employers. Ramirez said, "I knew learning English was key, learning English, going to work, and then learning, learning the skills of work, and also being, being aware that that was not necessarily the only job that I wanted, but also connecting to the community and being able to know how is it that I can get to other jobs."
