Hy-Vee stores to be closed on Thanksgiving Day for the first time

This is the first time in the store's 92-year history that more than 285 retail locations will be closed on the holiday.

ROCK ISLAND COUNTY, Ill. — Hy-Vee announced that more than 285 of its retail stores across the region will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, for the first time in its 92-year company history.

The company said in a press release that the closure will allow the company's more than 80,000 employees across an eight-state region to enjoy the holiday with friends and family.

All retail locations, such as their grocery stores, Dollar Fresh Markets, Fast & Fresh and wine and spirit stores will be closed. Hy-Vee corporate offices will also be closed.

If customers have already pre-purchased holiday meal packs, they will be able to schedule a time to pick up their order in-store prior to Thanksgiving Day or via curbside pickup from 8 to 11 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day at the grocery stores.

“Thanksgiving Day is about gratitude. The last several years have been some of the most challenging our employees have experienced and this is our way of showing our appreciation for everything they do on a daily basis to serve our customers,” Jeremy Gosch, CEO and president of Hy-Vee, said. “By closing our stores on Thanksgiving Day, we can give back to our employees by providing them time to focus on their own celebrations.”
