Iowa middle school teacher arrested for sexual abuse of student

Samantha Meyer-Davis is charged with third-degree sexual abuse and sexual exploitation by a school employee.

HUMBOLDT, Iowa — A former teacher at Humboldt Middle School in Iowa has been arrested after police say they sexually abused a student.

According to the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office, officers were notified of a possible sexual relationship between Humboldt Middle School teacher Samantha Meyer-Davis and a student who was younger than 16 years old in September 2023. The Sheriff's Office claims that the relationship started around June 2022, when the student was 14 years old. According to court documents, that relationship included kissing, sex acts, sharing videos, text messages and personal contact between Meyer-Davis and the minor student.

On Monday, Feb. 26, Meyer-Davis was arrested and charged with third-degree sexual abuse and sexual exploitation by a school employee, Class C and Class D felonies respectively. She posted $15,000 bond and has been released from the Humboldt County Jail.

A no-contact order was placed between Meyer-Davis and the student involved in the alleged abuse. Meyer-Davis is set to appear in court on the charges on Thursday, Feb. 29 at 9 a.m.

Officials with the Humboldt County School District told News 8 that Meyer-Davis is no longer an employee of the district. In a statement, Superintendent Jim Murray wrote:

“When the District was first notified by law enforcement about the allegations related to Samantha Davis it immediately placed Ms. Davis on administrative leave and began its own investigation in accordance with District policy. Ms. Davis subsequently resigned her position with the District on December 6th. The District has fully cooperated with law enforcement throughout its investigation and will continue to do so as student safety is the District's number one priority."
