Pet dies in Galesburg house fire

The Galesburg Fire Department responded to the fire on Sunday, April 28, at 9 a.m. According to the first responders, one pet passed away during the fire.

GALESBURG, Ill. — The Galesburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire Sunday morning at the 900 block of Hawkinson Avenue.

Firefighters responded to a single-family residence fire. Upon arrival, first responders encountered smoke and flames coming from a window. Crews entered the home from the rear and extinguished the fire.

According to Fire Chief Randy Hovind, the homeowner's dog escaped and their cat was unharmed, however, their bearded dragon died in the fire. There were no other injuries. 

The damages to the home are estimated to be $18,000. The Galesburg Fire Investigators determined the cause of the fire to be unintentional.
