Victims identified in fatal downtown Davenport crash on Oct. 29

The driver was speeding Sunday morning before fleeing from the police and colliding with a building.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Update:

The identification of two people killed when a car crashed into a building in downtown Davenport has been released by Davenport Police.

The driver is identified as 30-year-old Cyrene McKinley of Rock Island. The passenger is identified as Stevanna Rudolph, 27, of Davenport.

The crash remains under investigation and police are not releasing any further information at this time.

Two people died in a car crash early Sunday morning after driving recklessly in downtown Davenport.

The driver and passenger were in a Chevy Impala, driving at a high rate of speed near the intersection of 7th St. and Division St. around 2 a.m. Davenport Police tried to make a traffic stop, but the car fled from the officers. Police didn't pursue the car.

A few minutes later, the car was seen speeding through the intersection of 2nd St. and Gaines St. heading east. The car left the road and collided with the building at 601 West 2nd St.

The driver, an adult man, was taken to a local hospital by Medic EMS, where he was later pronounced dead. The passenger, an adult woman, succumbed to her injuries on the scene.

The Davenport Police Department is still investigating the incident.
