Family of missing East Moline veteran asks for community's help

Friday, April 12 marks two weeks since 92-year-old William Weber went missing from his Fox Pointe Apartments home in East Moline.

EAST MOLINE, Ill. — Friday, Apr. 12, marks two weeks since 92-year-old William Weber went missing from his Fox Pointe Apartments home in East Moline.

Weber's family is asking Quad Cities community members to continue keeping an eye out for Weber.

Candyce and Randy Weber, Weber's daughter-in-law and son, have spent countless hours searching for their father, known to them as 'Bill.'

They last saw the 92-year-old at his Fox Pointe Apartment on the evening of March 29th. Weber hadn't exhibited any signs of dementia.

"And then Saturday morning, when we had his grandson come to deliver the paper, he was gone," Candyce said.

The East Moline detective in charge of the case told News 8 there were a few leads, but nothing has panned out.

"We've done all his favorite restaurants, laundromat, gas station. Nobody's seen him so we've we've covered a lot of ground and we've spent a lot of miles on the road looking but there has been no clues," said Candyce.

The Webers said he only had about a third of a tank of gas in his car, so they're looking at a 60-mile radius. Candyce doesn't think he could have traveled very far.

"He'd visit with the people he'd seen every day at these restaurants, he'd throw his one-liners out there and then it'd be time to go. You know, he had a routine, and we had to get on board. You know, he had rules. We had to follow those rules," Candyce said.

They're also looking for neighbors with ring cameras that might have captured his Chevy Malibu.

"If you want flyers and you want to be a Facebook warrior for us, please I will get you the flyers and and we need help," Candyce said.

After two weeks, all they want is some sort of answer.

"We need closure we need to figure out where he's at and we need the public to help because he's he's in a parking lot or he's somewhere," said Candyce.

Police say Williams could be driving a silver Chevy Malibu with an Illinois veteran purple heart license plate and plate number 2610 PR. Williams is 5-foot-11-inches and weighs 140 pounds. He has gray hair and blue eyes and could be wearing a black Iowa Hawkeyes jacket, blue t-shirt, sweatpants and slippers, according to police. A walker that Weber uses to get around was missing from the apartment.

Any person with information regarding the whereabouts of Weber should contact the East Moline Police Department at 309-797-0401 or contact 911.
