The RiverCenter in Downtown, Davenport transformed into a roller rink for one night.

On Saturday, February 15th, 2014, the Quad City Rollers held their season opener.

The all-female flat track roller derby league is starting its 8th season. This year, the Rollers are members of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA), so they're trying to see where they rank out of more than 200 teams across the country.

"We are pumped," says Skater "Bootius Maximus." "We are so ready to go. It's one of those things that in the off-season you go back to your basics and you definitely get yourself back into the mode."

"Bootius Maximus" says she does this as a hobby. She is a wife and mother of two and started skating when she turned 30 years old.

"I love hitting," she laughs. "That's one of my favorite things to do is to hit one of the other girls out, but I also love the camaraderie between the teammates and just how you're able to work together."

"It's not your momma's roller derby. It's not the roller derby of old where they throw out the elbow and knock them over that way. There's a lot of strategy involved with women's flat track derby."

"Bootius Maximus" says roller derby is an up and coming sport and is making a resurgence. To see them compete, click here.
