Iowa Governor Terry Branstad ordered all flags in the state to be flown at half-staff in honor of Sgt. Michael Ristau.

Sgt. Ristau was killed in action July 13, 2012 while serving the U.S. Army in Afghanistan.  The vehicle in which he was riding was attacked by an improvised explosive device.

Governor Branstad’s order for flags at half staff applies to all U.S. and state flags under control of the state, including those at offices for federal government agencies.

The flags will fly at half-staff from 5 p.m. Friday, August 3, 2012 until 8 a.m. Monday, August 6.

A memorial service for Sgt. Ristau was set for 11 a.m. Saturday, August 4, 2012 at the Cascade City Park in Cascade, Iowa.
