17 additional Iowa counties added to Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds' disaster proclamation

The expanded proclamation now includes Jackson, Clinton and Muscatine Counties.

JACKSON COUNTY, Iowa — Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds has added 17 additional counties to her disaster proclamation following severe weather that tore through the state on Tuesday, May 21.

The expanded proclamation now includes the following counties, including three in News 8's viewing region:

  • Black Hawk
  • Buena Vista
  • Butler
  • Cedar
  • Clinton
  • Dubuque
  • Fayette
  • Franklin
  • Hancock
  • Humboldt
  • Iowa
  • Jackson
  • Mills
  • Muscatine
  • O'Brien
  • Polk
  • Story

With the disaster proclamation in effect, residents of the impacted counties are able to apply for help through the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program. Iowans with income up to 200% of the federal poverty label are eligible to receive up to $5,000 to help with home repairs, clothing replacement, food purchases and temporary housing expenses. Applications for assistance can be submitted here and must be sent in within 45 days of the proclamation.

Additionally, residents can also apply for the Disaster Case Advocacy Program, which pairs clients with an advocate who can help create a disaster recovery plan and help provide guidance towards obtaining recovery services. This program has no eligibility requirement, and applications close 180 days after the proclamation took effect. Residents can find more information on the program here.

The original disaster proclamation, which was issued on Tuesday, included Adair, Adams, Cass, Clay, Hardin, Harrison, Jasper, Kossuth, Marshall, Montgomery, Page, Palo Alto, Pottawattamie, Tama, and Warren Counties.
