Rock Island traffic accident leaves hundreds without power

A Wednesday morning traffic accident in Rock Island knocked down power lines and electricity for hundreds of households.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — A Wednesday morning accident in Rock Island knocked down power lines and electricity for hundreds of households.

According to the Rock Island Police Department, a traffic accident sometime before noon in the area of 11th Street between 17th and 18th Avenue downed wires and poles. Police asked the public to avoid the area, with north and southbound traffic blocked for at least a couple hours. North and southbound traffic has since reopened.

Hundreds of MidAmerican customers in Rock Island near the accident were without power Wednesday afternoon. MidAmerican has since restored power for most customers.
