Bicyclist hit, killed Friday night in Henry County, Illinois

Around 10:30 p.m. Friday, Henry County deputies responded to the 3300 block of Route 34 where a bicyclist was struck by a vehicle.

HENRY COUNTY, Ill. — Update Sunday, May 5 at 6:10 p.m.: Officials have identified the bicyclist as 31-year-old Tyler L. Bliss of Kewanee, according to an update from the Henry County Sheriff's Office.

A bicyclist is dead after being hit by a car Friday night near Kewanee, officials say. 

Deputies with the Henry County Sheriff's Office responded to the 3300 block of Route 34 around 10:30 p.m. on Friday where officials say a bicyclist was hit by a vehicle. According to a press release, the bicyclist was transported to a local hospital in Kewanee where they were pronounced deceased. The driver and passenger of the vehicle declined to receive medical attention at the scene. 

Route 34 was closed for numerous hours at the scene but has since been reopened. The sheriff's office says the incident remains under investigation and more information will be released after proper notifications have been made.
