DAVENPORT, Iowa — One person is dead following an early-morning crash in Scott County.

According to a report from Iowa State Patrol (ISP), 20-year-old Javier Villarreal was attempting to elude officers while heading northbound in a 2011 Nissan Maxima near the intersection of North Brady Street and East 53rd St. shortly after 12:40 a.m. on Sunday, March 3.

Officers claim that Villarreal lost control of his vehicle and crashed, and he ultimately died of his injuries.

The ISP said they received a report of a reckless driver on the Iowa-bound lanes of the Centennial Bridge. The ISP said they located Villarreal's vehicle speeding in Davenport and initiated a traffic stop, at which point Villareal turned his headlights off. The ISP said the trooper was three or four blocks back when the crash occurred.

No one else was involved in the crash, according to the report. The accident is under investigation.
