ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Rock Island police are searching for a third juvenile suspect following a night of investigating a shots fired call and a stolen vehicle.

The Rock Island Police Department said the investigation started after officers responded to a shots fired call in the 1200 block of 13th Avenue in Rock Island.

A witness told police that a suspect had fired a handgun up into the air through the sunroof of an SUV. Officers located a black Honda CRV with Iowa plates on city cameras that matched the description from the witness. The vehicle had also been reported as stolen out of Davenport.

No reports of injured people or property came up, according to police.

As their investigation continued, police learned the license plate reader system identified the suspect vehicle as it traveled to Davenport over the Centennial Bridge earlier on Wednesday.

Davenport police knew the suspect vehicle had been within the city on Wednesday and notified Rock Island police that they had located and were pursuing the suspect vehicle just before 1 a.m. Thursday.

The chase ended when the suspect vehicle crashed in the Lincoln Court area. Three juveniles ran from the scene, with two being captured and brought into custody. Police found two handguns during the incident, one was inside the car and the other had been discarded in the area.

Police identified the third juvenile and are searching for them. One of the two arrested was remanded to a juvenile detention facility. No other information, such as ages, has been released by police as of late Thursday morning.

Police also noted that two of the three juveniles have "numerous involvements with stolen vehicles, burglaries and firearm complaints."

Those with any information about this incident are encouraged to contact the Rock Island Police Department at 309-732-2677, CrimeStoppers at 309-762-9500 or on the P3 Tips app.
