DES MOINES, Iowa — UPDATE:
The Iowa's DOT appears to have regained control of its @IowaDOT X account as of early Wednesday.
Local 5 has reached out to the Iowa DOT if any posts from the account (before the account was "compromised") will appear on its social page.
ORIGINAL STORY:
The Iowa Department of Transportation says their @IowaDOT X account was "compromised" overnight.
A representative from the agency said they have reached out to X to regain control, but have been told it could be a day or two before that will happen.
The Local 5 News team noticed just before 4 a.m. Tuesday the page appears to advertise cryptocurrency.
The DOT confirmed this issue only relates to the specific social media account highlighted above, and no other systems are involved.
