Democrat Jack Hatch will face incumbent Republican Governor Terry Branstad in the race for Iowa governor in the November 2014 election.
Branstad won the candidacy in the Iowa Primary Election Tuesday, June 3, 2014. With all of the state’s 1,782 precincts reporting, Branstad had 83% of the votes. Hoefling had 16.8%.
According to Hoefling’s website, he opposed the Common Core system in Iowa schools and wants “fundamental tax reform.” Click here for information on Hoefling’s platform.
Branstad was Iowa’s longest-serving governor when he was in office from 1983 – 1999, according to his website. After four terms as governor, Branstad served as president of Des Moines University until he again took office as governor in 2011.
Jack Hatch will represent the Democratic Party in the Iowa gubernatorial race in November’s election. Noted on his website, Hatch has a goal to reverse Iowa’s “slide toward an economy with more low wage jobs and fewer middle class jobs” by increasing the minimum wage. Hatch also said he would like to “restore excellence to Iowa schools” by investing in teachers, buildings, and curriculum.
