Sears and Kmart stores were set to open earlier than ever Thanksgiving Day to give customers a head start on holiday shopping.

Parent company Sears Holdings announced Sears stores would open at 6 p.m. Thursday, November 27; and Kmart stores would be open for 42 hours non-stop from 6 a.m. Thursday, November 27 until midnight Friday, November 28.

“This holiday season is all about giving more to our members and because many like to start shopping well before Black Friday, we’re excited to open our doors early on Thanksgiving and offer other early access opportunities for them to shop and save. I’d also like to especially thank our seasonal associates and those who have volunteered to share part of the day serving our members on Thanksgiving,” said Leena Munjal, senior vice president of Sears Holdings.

The company announced in late October 2014 it would close 77 stores and cut 5,300 jobs – including some in Iowa and Illinois – before Christmas.
