Monday afternoon shooting injures 22-year-old in Rock Island

Police say the victim could not provide any information on the suspect and no arrests have been made at this time.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — No arrests have been made after a 22-year-old man was shot while riding as a passenger in a truck Monday afternoon, according to the Rock Island Police Department

Police responded to a shots fired call at 2:37 p.m. in the 2500 block of 5th 1/2 Avenue. Callers reported that the shots came from a white sedan that fled the area. 

Witnesses also told officers they heard gunshots and saw a group of juveniles wearing dark clothing running through yards in the area. Officers located spent shell casings in a nearby alley.

At 3 p.m., UnityPoint Trinity reported that a 22-year-old man had arrived at the emergency room with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the knee. Police say the victim claimed to be a passenger in a truck with an unknown friend when he was shot. 

The victim and his friend were traveling down the 2500 block of 5th 1/2 Avenue when they heard a pop and realized he had been shot. The victim went back to his home and a neighbor took him to the hospital. 

The victim couldn't provide any information on a suspect, according to police. No arrests have been made at this time. 

No other injuries or property damage was found or reported to Rock Island police.
