MERCER COUNTY, Ill. — The Mercer County football team will be without their head coach this Friday and for the foreseeable future after Head Coach Tanner Matlick was suspended indefinitely on Monday, Oct. 14.
Mercer County Superintendent Tim Farquer issued a statement Monday evening, stating the decision was, "not the result of a singular event but a combination of a series of events resulting in a climate and culture below the expectations of the school district and the community."
Matlick, a 2013 graduate of the school, was in his second year at the helm of his alma mater. Jason Kenny has been named the interim head coach.
The Mercer County Board of Education's next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
