SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Police locked down the Illinois State Capitol Building on Tuesday after they received a threat, Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias said on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
The lockdown was lifted later Tuesday afternoon, according to Gov. J.B. Pritzker.
"The Illinois State Capitol Building is no longer under lockdown," Gov. J.B. Pritzker said in a statement posted to X. "Thank you to our Illinois Secretary of State Police for their quick response today. Our first responders go above and beyond to keep us all safe with their bravery and service. That’s Illinois strong."
Giannoulias originally said Illinois Secretary of State Police were sweeping the building. Police did not share specific details on the threat or if anything was found during the sweep with 5 On Your Side.
