TV show makes over local Rock Island restaurant

The crew from Food Network’s ‘Restaurant Impossible’ has been overhauling Goombazz Big City Eatzz on 18th Avenue.

A Rock Island restaurant is getting the full reality TV treatment. The crew from Food Network's 'Restaurant Impossible' has been overhauling Goombazz Big City Eatzz on 18th Avenue.

Fans of the show aren't waiting for it to air to get a sneak peek.

Last November, 2012, owners of GoomBazz Big City Eatzz held their grand opening.  Not even a year later, they're asking for some help from a very well-known professional, Chef Robert Irvine from the TV show 'Restaurant Impossible.'

"We watch like watch the show religiously, so I just think it's really exciting locally, like a restaurant is getting the chance to get a new start," said Sara Mahieu, a fan of the show.

'Restaurant Impossible' helps turn around failing restaurants, but the challenge is getting everything done in two days and with a $10,000 budget.  Fans gathered close on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 to watch part of the episode being filmed, in hopes of catching a glimpse of Irvine.

"I was able to talk to him earlier, took a picture of him. He gave a thumbs up to me and my family, so it was pretty exciting," said Michael Farrington.

Fans expect Irvine to give some tough love, which he is known for on the show.

"I'm sure that he's going to listen but he's going to be tough and he's gonna tell them exactly what they need to do if they want their business to thrive," said Mahieu.

Fans say Goombazz is in good hands if they want to succeed.

"I know how well chef Irvine can turn a restaurant around, so I'll be more than anticipating a good outcome when they finally reopen," said Farrington.

Goombazz will reopen Wednesday night, October 9, 2013, for the reveal, but reservations are already booked.  No date has been released yet when the episode will air.
