SOMERSET, Texas — A sophomore student who was regularly wearing boots that were too small was beyond excited to get new shoes from his classmates.

The students from Somerset Independent School District had noticed that JR Gilbert was wearing shoes that didn’t fit him, so they all chipped in to get him two pairs of Nike sneakers – one pair in red and the other in green – his favorite color.

“You got my favorite kind too!” he said as he saw the box through the ripped wrapping paper.

JR’s feet are size 13, but he usually wears his beloved grandfather’s size 10.5 boots, since he can no longer wear them, according to a post on the school’s Facebook page.

Students recorded the whole thing, and JR proudly showed his shoes to the cheering crowd.

“We want to wish you a merry Christmas JR,” said one student. “This is from all of us.

The students then lifted their fists into a pile in the air; JR instructed, “Family on three!”

“One… Two… Three… FAMILY!”
