Popular Astronomy Club offers a closer look at the supermoon

Experts say this is the biggest supermoon since 1948, and we won’t see it like this again until 2034.

If you step outside tonight, you may notice that the moon is bigger and brighter than usual.

Experts say this is the biggest supermoon since 1948, and we won't see it like this again until 2034.

A couple members of the Popular Astronomy Club of the Quad Cities stopped by WQAD News 8 on Sunday night to give us a closer look through their telescope.

"We've got some clouds out here tonight, which makes it a little bit more challenging, but it's really cool sometimes to look at the moon through clouds, because it looks really eerie, kinda like a Halloween moon. I'd call it a Halloween moon that we have tonight," said Alan Sheidler, president of the club.

A supermoon occurs when the moon turns full on the same day that it's orbit is closet to Earth.

The supermoon will turn precisely full on November 14, 2016 at 7:52 a.m. Central Time. The best views will likely be on the night of Sunday, November 13, or the following night.
