DAVENPORT, Iowa -- Police opened fire on a vehicle that "rammed a marked squad car" after officers tried to pull the driver over, according to a statement from the Davenport Police Department.

That vehicle was initially spotted speeding away from the scene of a shots fired call in the 1300 block of Ripley Street around 11:40 p.m. Monday, July 18, 2016, the statement said.   Police tried to pull the vehicle over about two miles away in a parking lot at 1600 Rockingham Road, and that's when it ran into a squad car.

Police then fired their weapons, according to the department.  As the vehicle fled, it drove over a curb and went westbound on Rockingham Road.  That vehicle was found later in the 500 block of Pine Street.

The man who had been driving that car was later admitted to an area hospital with a non-life-threatening injury from a gunshot wound, police said.  He is in stable condition.

Families of those involved are being notified, and there are no names being released at this time.

Both officers have been placed on administrative leave, and the incident is being investigated by the Scott County Sheriff's Office and the Iowa Department of Public Safety Division of Criminal Investigation, as per protocol.
