DAVENPORT, Iowa — As part of Pantsuit Nation, about 20 people gathered in front of City Hall on Saturday night evening for a candlelight vigil in the wake of the 2016 Presidential Election.
"There's a lot of protesting, violent protesting; and we wanted a way to come together to heal," said Elizabeth Rose, a resident of Davenport who supported democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in the election.
Pantsuit Nation gathered at City Halls across the country at 8 p.m. CST on Saturday, November 12, 2016.
"It seems like the goal of the pantsuit nation is not to separate but to bring people together," said Susan Roelle, a resident of Davenport at the vigil.
"We have to accept that [Donald J. Trump] is going to be our president for the next 4 years, and that's not easy," said Rose. "I'm still angry; I'm still hurt, but I'm going to do everything I can to help this country heal," she said.
The violent protests happening across the country are far from the goal of Pantsuit Nation.
"For me, I am not a hater, and I would not protest and I respect the presidency, and the president. The selection of that person isn`t particularly my choice, I don't agree with philosophies, but it is what it is," said Roelle, adding that the vigil is a peaceful, welcoming environment for people who share angst about the future.
