One person died after police say one semi struck another on I-80.  The crash closed the roadway for several hours.

A tractor-trailer crashed into the back of another that was parked on the shoulder of westbound I-80, said a spokesperson from the Illinois State Police.

The driver of the moving semi was pronounced dead at the scene.   He was later identified as 47-year-old Sean Fergeson of Everett, Washington.

Police said the semi on the shoulder was broken down, and that it had four-way flashers working and reflective triangles set out behind it at the time of the crash.

Police said the crash happened between Atkinson and Geneseo at milepost 22. The westbound lanes were closed for several hours, and traffic was rerouted on US 6 between Atkinson and Genseo.

One lane of the roadway reopened before 5 p.m.  All lanes were open just after 7 p.m.

An autopsy on Mr. Fergeson was scheduled for Wednesday, August 13.
