PORT BYRON, Illinois — Today was a special occasion for Living Lands in Waters. The organization planted its one-millionth tree today at Riverdale Elementary School in Port Byron.

Founder and president Chad Pregracke was there to celebrate as well as “The Walking Tree of Live” – a walking, talking tree man.

Students chanted while a handful dug a hole, plopped in the tree and covered it back up.

The MillionTrees Project was started by the organization in 2007 and today they have finally reached their goal.

“Not only was it a great day to plant the one-millionth tree, but doing it with 600 kids was really one of the coolest things I’ve ever done. A few years back one of the LL&W Board Members said to me, ‘You know you are really building a legacy.’ I never really thought about it, but it’s true. We really are…a much cleaner river, and today we’ll have added one million trees to the Midwest,” said Pregracke.

The MillionTrees Project will continue by growing the trees locally at the Living Lands and Waters Tree Nursery in Davenport.
