Iowa woman killed in I-80 motorcycle crash

Police said a blown tire led to a motorcycle crash that killed one person and injured another on Interstate 80 near Williamsburg.

The crash was reported Just before 11 p.m. Saturday, August 3, 2013 at mile marker 207.

A report from the Iowa State Patrol said 56-year-old Michael Gene Muldoon and 62-year-old Mary Beth Penne, both of Ottumwa, were on a 1991 Honda motorcycle eastbound on I-80 when the back tire deflated.

That caused Muldoon to lose control of the motorcycle and crash. Muldoon and Penne were both thrown from the motorcycle.

Penne was airlifted to an area hospital where she was later pronounce dead.

Muldoon was taken by ground ambulance to a hospital for treatment of his injuries.

No other vehicles were reportedly involved in the crash.
