On Wednesday, May 6, 2015, the I-74 Bridge will completely shut down for a small amount of time. The bridge will shut down completely from 3 a.m. to 4 a.m.
A spokeswoman with Mid-American Energy says that crews accidentally knocked down a power line a couple of weeks ago, when they were doing work near the interstate. Wednesday, crews will restore that line, but to do it, they'll need to shut down both sides of the bridge.
To get around the closure, drivers will need to take the Centennial Bridge, the I-80 Bridge, or the I-280 Bridge. The Rock Island Gate to the Rock Island Arsenal is closed until late May or early June for repair work.
