Hundreds of early risers in the Quad Cities fought the snow and cold to run in the YMCA's 28th Annual Turkey Trot.

On Thursday, November 27th, 2014, more than 2,500 runners sped through the streets of downtown Davenport.

Organizers say they were very happy with the turnout despite flurries and temperatures in the teens.

"Once you get moving and you start running, halfway through the race you don't feel anything anymore so you'll be just fine and you'll be at the finish line before you know it," said Race Director, Missy Huff.

The event included a family-friendly one-mile walk and a five-mile run. Huff says it's a family tradition for many who participate.

"It's a good thing to do in the morning. I think it allows you to eat a little bit more later in the day once you get up and exercise. I think a lot of people that come from out of town that are here to see their family. It's a good thing to do in the morning all together."

Proceeds help fund "Spirit, Mind, & Body Scholarships at the Y," according to a press release. Huff says 100% of the money stays in the Quad Cities.
