CLINTON, Iowa--When Gregg Obren got the call that 27-year-old Meghan M. Peters died falling from Eagle Point Cliff Sunday, May 22, he said, as the park's director he had to do something.  As of now Eagle Point Park has dozens of signs and gates to protect hikers from the steep slopes, but Obren says the department needs to try harder.

"There's a risk manager coming up some time soon… to kind of look over what we have in place to see if there's anything additionally that we need to be doing," he says.

The Clinton Fire Department says Meghan's death is the second fatality at the Eagle Point Cliff in the last 10 years. They are also called to that location at least once a year to handle other cliff-related injuries.

With every twist and turn of the hiking trails Obren says the city will do what it can to move forward, but he also wants the community to see nature's dangers is as clearly as its beauty.

Meghan’s funeral is scheduled for Saturday May 28, at Clinton Lawn Cemetery.
