Body pulled from Mississippi identified as 23-year-old from West Chicago

A dead body was found near Andalusia in the Mississippi river, currently unidentified. News8 is following the investigation.

ANDALUSIA, Illinois-- Update: A body found in the Mississippi River Sunday has been identified as Jeremy Swiatek, a 23-year-old West Chicago man, according to Brian Gustafson, the Rock Island County Coroner.

The East Moline Police reported Swiatek missing on Saturday, Sept. 14, and was asking the public for help finding him. He was last seen leaving Billy Bob's, a bar in downtown Rock Island on Thursday night, Sept. 12.

He was reportedly headed towards an Augustana College bus stop.

Swiatek was in the Quad Cities on business.

Gustafson said Rock Island Police and East Moline Police continue to investigate how Swiatek ended up in the river.

Original: Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustafson confirmed that a body was  found in the Mississippi river near Andalusia, Illinois just after 3 p.m. Sunday, September 15.

Gustafson also said that it is the body of a 23-year-old man from West Chicago, and that his name is not being released until family is notified.
