Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton were met with applause when they walked onto the debate stage Sunday evening, October 9, 2016. But when the two met face to face, they refused to shake hands.
The candidates exchanged a few “hello”s but neither made a move to share a handshake.
During the 90-minute debate the two answered the moderators questions, exchanging insults, tearing down each other’s policies, values, and plans. The final question forced them to say one nice thing about the other.
Hillary went first, and complimented Donald’s children.
“His children are incredibly able, and devoted and I think that says a lot about Donald,” she said.
Donald went next, commenting that he admires that Hillary won’t quit and called her “a fighter.”
“She doesn’t quit, she doesn’t give up. I respect that,” he said.
When all was said and done, the two met center-stage and Donald Trump extended his arm to Hillary Clinton and it was returned with a handshake.
