Standard man charged with concealment of a death in Deborah Dewey investigation

Police have made an arrest in the investigation of the death of Ladd, Illinois woman Deborah Dewey.

STANDARD, Illinois -- Police have made an arrest in the investigation of the death of Ladd, Illinois woman Deborah Dewey.

Hours after it was announced that Dewey's body was found, Captain Richard Wilk with the Illinois State Police Department said that 66-year-old Clifford A. Andersen, from Standard, Illinois, was charged with concealment of a death.

Dewey, age 62, had last been seen on August 22, 2016 in Spring Valley, Illinois, police said.  One week later, her car was found at the TA Truck Stop on Illinois Route 47, north of Interstate 80.

On Monday, September 12, 2016 officers were searching a home at 5th Street and Illinois Route 71 in Standard for evidence relating to her disappearance.   According to a statement from the Illinois State Police, the body was pulled "from a shallow grave located in the yard of the residence." The identity of the body was verified through dental records.

Captain Wilk said that the next day, on Tuesday, September 13, a search warrant was issued for a home on 8th Street in Standard.

"Several items of evidence were gathered and the three occupants of the residence were interviewed," Wilk said at the conference.

Andersen was then charged and held in the Bureau County Jail on $750,000 bond.
