A liquor store owner is facing a lawsuit after he chased and shot a shoplifter.
KDVR reports Bryson Adrian Dewberry was shot in the chest and jaw after he reportedly stole a bottle of vodka from a liquor store in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Store owner Chang Ho Yi reportedly chased Dewberry out of the store and shot at him as Dewberry got into a getaway car.
Dewberry and a 17-year-old who was also shot later showed up at a hospital and explained they had been shot while shoplifting.
Yi was initially charged but a grand jury reviewed the case and declined to indict him. Dewberry also was not charged.
Dewberry filed a lawsuit against Yi, seeking at least $100,000 for pain and suffering. Dewberry’s lawsuit claims Yi was negligent and reckless in shooting at a shoplifter that posed no physical threat. He also claims he requires ongoing speech therapy as a result of the shooting.
