THORNTON, Colo. -- The Westminster mother who is accused of leaving her 2-year-old boy in a vehicle for several hours as temperatures plunged below zero is due in court Monday morning.

The Thornton Police Department found the child inside the car early Saturday morning suffering from frostbite and hypothermia. The vehicle was parked in a shopping plaza at East 120th Avenue and Washington Street.

Employees noticed the car parked overnight at 9 a.m. Saturday. Several inches of snow covered the 2013 green Ford Fusion so no one could see there was a child inside.

The boy's mother, 26-year-old Nicole Carmon, was arrested over the weekend for felony child abuse. Police believe the vehicle might have been involved in an accident on Friday.

First responders removed the boy from the car just after 10:30 a.m. He was alive and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

His condition has not been released.
