A psychologist who evaluated her says Kendra Meaker is fit to stand trial.
The Peoria Journal Star reports Dr. John Day issued a one-paragraph statement concluding Meaker is competent to stand trial on the charges of endangering the welfare of a child and obstructing justice. Meaker was charged after she allegedly abandoned her newborn daughter along a rural road and then reported to police the baby had been abducted from her car at the Toulon Post Office.
The report resulted in an Amber Alert issued for baby Mia Graci Thompson, who was found the evening of the date she was reported missing.
The Stark County judge presiding over the case ordered the mental fitness examination at a hearing October 12.
Judge Stuart Borden set the next hearing in the case for November 30, when the doctor’s full report is expected to be submitted.
