A former Des Moines police officer faces a federal indictment alleging he violated the civil rights of a man he allegedly kicked in the head during an arrest.

Colin Boone was indicted by a grand jury Tuesday, December 17, 2013.  Boone is charged with deprivation of rights under the color of law.

Boone is accused of injuring a man by kicking him in the head as the man was being arrested February 19, 2013.

Our sister station WHO-TV reported Boone was a 2011 Medal of Valor recipient, and that he was fired from the Des Moines Police Department on May 1, 2013.   At the time he was fired, the incident was reportedly the second time Boone had been accused of injuring a civilian during an arrest.

U.S. Attorney Nicholas Klinefeldt said Boone was arrested in South Dakota Thursday morning, December 19, 2013.
